Death Defying Acts-Part 26: In Pursuit of Protecting the Modesty of Kali

 Embodiments of Love!

My confusions continue and they torment me day in and day out!

Is Kali to be called BhavataariNi or BhavadhaariNi?          

 ( भवतारिणी Vs भवधारिणी)

This name crosses my mind many a time;

Earlier also I used to analyze and left the pursuit at that.

Again when I was reading an article on Mata Amritanandhamayi, there were references to Kali BhavataariNI!

I was confused as to whether it is taariNi or dhaariNi

Literally I started my analysis:

भव---(m)bhava: world , Life

तारिन्—thaarin—adj-enabling to cross over, saving

—तारिणी is the feminine gender noun form of taarin derived from above; that is the one who helps in crossing over.

धारिन्—dhaarin—adj=holding, wearing, bearing—धारिणी

—dhaarini is the feminine noun form of dhaarin; that is the one who wears.

Let us see whether Kali is BhavataariNi or BhavadhaariNi

1) Kali as BhavataariNi

भवतारिणी—BhavataariNi

In Sanskrit TaariN is an adjective that means saving, enabling to escape/cross over

So if I call Kali as BhavataariNi, She is supposed to relieve rajagopal from the pains of Life/Samsaara!

2) Kali as BhavadhaariNi

भवधारिणी—BhavadhaariNi

In Sanskrit Dhaarin is an adjective that means holding, wearing or bearing.

So if I call kali as BhavadhaariNi She is visualized by rajagopal as the one who has the Universe as her apron.

Given a choice I would prefer to call kali as BhavadhaariNi;

You may ask the reason:

When Kali is wearing the dress of world/Universe all over Her, I will always be protecting the modesty of my Mother and will be in constant touch with Her being at any point of time!

I do not want to call Her as BhavataariNi as I do not find anything wrong with this Life; many people need to be served by rajagopal;

I do not want to get rid of this Life; if I have to leave this world, I will take births after births to be with all my loved ones!

Heaven  will be more boring than this Earth

Durga Suktam comes to my support:

स नः॑ पर्-ष॒दति॑ दु॒र्गाणि॒ विश्वा॒ क्षाम॑द्दे॒वो अति॑ दुरि॒ता‌உत्य॒ग्निः ॥

Sa nah parshhadati durgani vishvakshamaddevo atiduritatyagnih 5

The above paragraph means Bonding with Durga’s Universal compassion helps overcome miseries!

Oh Kali my Love! Bestow me that Auspiciousness to be ever in touch with Thy Universal Form Dear!
