Death Defying Acts-Part 18—Fear Over The City

 Embodiments of Love!

Warning: This episode is not a Review of the 1975 flicker featuring Jean-Paul Belmondo!

Indications: Worry of your beautiful ladylove being traded off by another warrior//suffering from nightmarish dream of your lover being stolen by your close friend!

I am always fascinated by the word “Surrender”
All scriptures suggest that we should be aware of the present and the possibility of our becoming “Nothing” when you may claim that “ My name is Nobody”!

Both the above concepts demand a faculty called “Fearlessness” which will create a Die-Hard out of nobody!

We go on expecting something.
Fortunately or unfortunately we get it.

After getting we plan to preserve the same for fear of losing!

The pursuit of happiness through the fulfillment of desires is however fraught with rather disastrous consequences to the unwary traveler!

One beautiful solution to resolve this stalemate is to live like the bird coot.
Coot dives into water and when it comes out, we cannot find trace of water droplets; this is what is called “being attached without getting soiled”!

Let us take the example of Mata Amritanandamyi Devi!
Mata Amritanandamayi Devi says, “I have so many around me but I am alone and am ever happy”

This is one way of renunciation/detachment (Vairagya) practiced by the hugging saint Amma!

She knows the proper utilization of the tool Love which is unbroken so that everyone has the same share; this kind of love on maturing grows into universal love when the person practicing that love, starts loving everything without expecting anything
The effect of this Universal love will be plain living and high thinking which make the person easily approachable and in their shadow we find SOLACE!

So the basic factor that determines the person is described by Krishna as follows and that person is named as sthithaprajna-person of steady wisdom!

The mind of sthithaprajna is not shaken by adversity nor does he hanker after happiness and freed is he from attachment, fear and wrath!

References:
Bhagavad Gita-Chapter 2, verse 54
arjuna uvaacha
sthitaprajna kaa bhaasaa samaadhisthasya keshava
sthitadhia kim prabhaaseta kimaasita vrajeta kim
Arjuna said: Oh Keshava (Krishna), what is the description of a person of firm wisdom, one who's mind abides in the aatmaa, self?( absorbed in contemplation) How does such a person of steady wisdom  whose mind is not shaken by anything, speak, sit, walk?

Bhagavad Gita-Chapter 2, verse 55
srii bhagavaan uvaacha
prajahaati yadaa kaamaan sarvaan paartha manogataan
atmanyevaatmanaa tushtah sthita prajna stadocyate
Sri Bhagavan said:

when a person gives up all the desires as they appear in the mind, Oh Arjuna, happy in oneself, with oneself alone, that person is said to be one of stable wisdom.

Bhagavad Gita-Chapter 2, verse 56

duhkhesvanudvignamanahaah sukhesu vigatasprhah
vitaraagabhayakrodhah sthitadhirmunirucyate

The one who is not affected by adversities, who is without yearning for pleasures, who is free from longing, fear and anger, is said to be a wise person whose knowledge remains stable.

Okay, so FEAR is the real killer!

Let us come to the climax and see what Vairagya Shatakam of Bhatruhari.( King, poet and philosopher) has to say on FEAR!

bhoge rogabhayam kule chyutibhayam vitta nR^ipaalaadbhayam
maane dainyabhayam bale ripubhayam ruupe jaraayaa bhayam.
shaastre vaadibhayam guNae khalabhayam kaaye kR^itaantaadbhayam
sarvam vastu bhayaanvitaM bhuvi nR^iNaam vairaagyamevaabhayam
                                                                                                     ….... 31
There is fear of disease in the enjoyment of sensual pleasures!
In lineage (high family traditions), fear of disgrace due to decline of principle!

 In riches, fear of kings/officers!

 In honour fear of humiliation!

 In power fear of enemies!

In beauty fear of old age!

 In learning, fear of disputants!

In virtue, fear of the wicked!

 In body, fear of death!

All facets of man's life on earth engender fear!

Renunciation/Detachment (VAIRAGYAM) alone is fearless!

So do not fear that somebody would covet your sweetheart or your boyfriend would be taken away by your close friend!

धन्यवाद:

See you in the next episode
With lots of love
