Fading fast…Remembering a known unknown

Embodiments of Love!

This day being birthday of Gandhiji, I wanted to write on him;
One person suggested the topic “Upavas”;
that person objects to Upavas!
I am a hard core Upavas-fellow!
(Note: Upavas in India means fasting in the name of God; a few call it as spiritual fasting.)

Fasting is the human engineered plan;

Fasting is an exceptional measure, designed to channel and express the desire for God /God’s Grace for a few.

The spiritual purposes can be:

§  strengthening prayer
§  seeking God’s guidance
§  expressing grief
§  seeking deliverance or protection
§  expressing repentance and returning to God
§  humbling oneself before God
§  expressing concern for the work of God
§  ministering to the needs of others
§  overcoming temptation and dedicating yourself to God
§  expressing love and worship to God

I differ from all the above:

After fasting, my lost affinity for food is restored in multifold.
I understand what hunger is and when somebody asks me food, I give immediately;
In fact scriptures suggest that the food allotted to an individual for the day, should be given to the poor, on the individual’s fasting day.
After fasting I value food as Almighty and avoid wastage.
As a contingency plan, fasting has made be undergo forceful fasting where I may not get food, even if I have money to purchase;
Fasting reminds me how tirelessly, even without a Sunday, our system works tirelessly to keep me ALIVE;

The person who suggested the topic said that their God resists fasting and tags upavas as a sin;
And
My God recommends fasting

For me there is no God outside.

Unfortunately fasting has been reduced to a meaningless ritual…

Monday ..Siva
Tuesday..Ganesha
Wednesday..Vittal
Thursday..Guru/Vishnu
Friday…Mahalakshmi
Saturday..Shani
Sunday…Sun God

Unfortunately there are only 7 days in a week; otherwise we would require 33, 00, 00,000 days to satisfy all the Gods.

Nonsense…

I personally object to ladies observing Upavas, as they are Goddesses personified, doing lots of sacrifices and fasting is not warranted for them;
For men it gives the mental strength to resist anything natural/unnatural;
For those men who are mentally strong, neither God nor fasting is required.

For people like rajagopal, who are neither spiritualist not demons, fasting may be desirable.

Note:

I love Gandhiji for many things;
It will be appropriate to share his views on his birthday:

There can be no room for selfishness, anger, lack of faith or impatience in a pure fast....Infinite patience, firm resolve; single-mindedness of purpose, perfect calm, and no anger must of necessity be there. But since it is impossible for a person to develop all these qualities all at once, no one who has not devoted himself to following the laws of ahimsa should undertake a Satyagrahi fast.

Mulla had a dream.

A man knocked at his door and asked if he could spend the night in his house.
He said he would pay 10 gold coins for the privilege.
Mulla agreed and showed him to his room.
The next morning, the man thanked Mulla and began taking out gold coins from his purse.
He took out nine and stopped.

"You promised to give me ten!" shouted Mulla and awoke.
He looked around for the man but there was no one there.
He quickly shut his eyes again.
"All right all right," he said. "Give me nine!"

धन्यवाद:

See you in the next episode
With lots of love
